Trust - RLF 2010 Annual Event

Our annual event took place in the Hackney Empire on September 17th. As usual there was an explosion of talent demonstrated by the young people taking part. The format was a step away form our usual method in that, this year’s performances were all linked together in the form of a play which we hope kept to the fore the reasons why we were all there.

It was a culmination of weeks of auditions, rehearsals and finally the day came when all this talent came bursting onto the stage.

There was poetry, drama, singing all of which provided laughter but at the same time kept the audience’s minds focused on those we have lost through gun and knife crime over the years and to remind each and everyone of us we do have a choice. And on occasions gave us food for thought regarding our responsibilities to others and our community as a whole.

The event also marked the start of Hackney borough week of peace and also formed part of a number of town centre celebrations also held on the day at various locations.

If you would like to take part in our events next year we will be auditioning in July so please keep checking the website. You may also wish to take part in our stage and performance programme, which may be the natural route into performing at this event.

We would like to say a big thank you to all those who took part and to Pan Arts who for directed some of their performers to us.
We would like to thank our sponsors LCH. CLEARNET, holman fenwick willan, Newlove neighborhood projects, Victim support and Team Hackney.

'Revolution' by Rochelle Logan-Rodgers - Performed @ RLF 'Trust' Annual Event

Revolution of the mind
Revolution of the body
Revolution of the Soul

It’s in our control

I’ve come to the conclusion
That we live in an illusion
What we recognize to be true, is not
What needs to be remembered, is forgotten

Plugged into a matrix of lies and deceit
Programmed to know and accept defeat
Feeding from leftovers to survive and eat
Dumbed down and desensitized to take the back seat

Please take your backside and stand up
Please open your eyes wide and wake up

It’s my conclusion,
The ‘war on terror’ is an illusion
A pollution of fear, for those who care,
To be put to confusion
As the government swears,
“Oil is not our aim, disarming WMDs is our game”
“Weapons of Mass Destruction” they claimed.

But what about weapons of mass distraction?
How do we revolt against that fatal attraction?
When the television tells lies to our vision
The mind’s imprisoned, controlled by subconscious decisions

True revolution will not be televised,
We need to fix up, look sharp, get wise
Use the net or head down to the library,
Uncover the lies that have been buried.

Che Guevara aided the Cuban revolution
He overstood the power of propaganda’s confusion
So he didn’t just teach his guerrillas how to fight,
He made sure every one of them learnt how to read and write

Revolution of the mind
Revolution of the body
Revolution of the Soul

It’s in our control

Martin Luther King said ‘let freedom reign’
Today I ask, ‘Are we truly free?’
When Aaliyah declared ‘we need a resolution’
I think we needed to make that our decree

When Marvin Gaye asked ‘What’s going on’?
He saw police brutality and poverty
And when Bob Marley sang ‘redemption song’
He said ‘emancipate yourself from mental slavery’

When Marley sang about Buffalo soldiers
Did you know about the Tuskegee Airmen?
How their courage helped the revolution
But our beautiful history extends before then

When 2pac talked about changes
Another prophet agreed
He said a revolution is a complete constructive change
It’s a 180 or full 360 degrees

A revolution is a rotational motion or axial rotation
It’s an orbital motion about a point
It’s a momentous change in a situation
Overthrow a government; remove and reappoint

Revolution of the mind
Revolution of the body
Revolution of the Soul

It’s in our control

We need to control our own businesses
We need to open our own shops
We need to conquer the 1% of the world
Who owns what the other 99 has not

We need to support the/our people
We need to get back to our roots
We need to be conscious to nature
Not cloud our reality with lies that pollute

We need to control the media
We need to watch what we eat
We need to break from the supremacies that exist
And pull down the strongholds of the elite

Revolution of the mind

Negative thoughts need to be brought to execution
No longer be a target of ignorant persecution
A distribution, of good thoughts
Should be your contribution
To our community, truth talks
Much higher than the institutions
That can divide
But God is higher than religion
But we don’t think
So the knowledge of life
Undergoes dilution

A lifetime of debt
That forced us into prostitution
The pimps say ‘labour for life’
And that the only absolution
To this mess, is a new order for world evolution
But we need to wake up and shout “No! The revolution is the solution”

Revolution of the mind
Revolution of the body
Revolution of the Soul
It’s in our control
To reach the common goal
Elevate from this hole
Return what’s been stole
